Need a Dose of Zen? Stream Yo-Yo Ma Concerts in the Comfort of Your Living Room
With the coronavirus situation rapidly unfolding, a bit of at-home distraction and delight can be most helpful during these difficult times. That's why we were happy to find a calming escape on the Facebook page of famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In the past seven days the virtuoso musician has posted four videos for fans to enjoy—and get a much-needed relaxation break while watching—on his artist page here.
On Friday, he posted a particularly poignant performance riffing on Antonín Dvořák's composition, which set the basis for popular song "Going Home." Accompanying the clip, he wrote, "In these days of anxiety, I wanted to find a way to continue to share some of the music that gives me comfort." So far, the video has received 3.8 million views and counting. Clearly moved, commenters chimed in with responses like, "Thank you for sharing such a beautiful and comforting piece of music. Your genuine concern and care for others is a tremendous gift," and "It was very good for my heart to hear you play this tune from the second movement [of D'vorak's 9th Symphony]." In another post, Yo-Yo Ma shared an inspired rendition of Bach's Cello Suite No. 3, thoughtfully dedicated to those in the healthcare system. "This is for the healthcare workers on the frontlines — the Sarabande from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3. Your ability to balance human connection and scientific truth in service of us all gives me hope," he offered via Twitter. Watch below.
