Dormify Collaborates with ArtSugar on Collection Benefiting Girls Who Code

Nothing quite pulls a space together like a really cool piece of art — one that reflects your style and personality, and perhaps gets people talking, too. And acquiring one doesn’t have to mean emptying your bank account or waiting several years until you can save up thousands of dollars. Case in point: Dormify’s newest collaboration, offering prints well below that thousands-of-dollars price point. Even better: The art is by young, female artists and some of the dollars you do spend on it benefit young, female programmers.

The online dorm décor outpost teamed up with charity-based art retailer ArtSugar (which donates 5% of the proceeds from every purchase to different charities) to curate a nine-piece collection of 16x20” framed prints, available beginning July 22 — and a percentage of each sale goes to Girls Who Code, an organization dedicated to young women’s education in computer science.

The art in the collection comes from three female artists — Anna Panchenko, by robynblair, and Katy Hirschfeld — and each of the prints is sure to add a solid dose of brightness to your dorm or apartment walls. “I hope my art makes people stop and smile, and that the candy and fun colors reflect positive energy,” Robyn tells Teen Vogue of her sugary-themed pieces.

Anna, the photographer behind the collection’s three striking, colorful lip prints, is certainly excited to be a part of the Dormify x ArtSugar collaboration. “It is important that my art is seen and appreciated by all, and especially that young women can own my work at this affordable price point offered through Dormify,” the 27-year-old artist tells Teen Vogue. “It is also so wonderful that an element of giving back is incorporated into my work — especially to a cause like Girls Who Code.”

The latter is a point all three artists say they’re happy about. In fact, the whole collaboration has one major, underlying theme: Strong women and girls. Not only are some of the proceeds going to Girls Who Code and the featured artists are all female, but Dormify and ArtSugar themselves are also both female-run companies. “I am so excited we are going to be able to offer our customers an opportunity to kick off their art collections with affordable framed prints by young, trailblazing, female artists,” Amanda Zuckerman, co-founder and creative director at Dormify, tells Teen Vogue. “Starting Dormify with my mom and growing our powerful all women team, it especially sweetens the deal to be able to give back to the next generation of women in business at Girls Who Code with this partnership with ArtSugar!”

Katy, who has three colorful collage portraits included in the collection, tells Teen Vogue that her own art “is inspired by and pays tribute to strong women,” which makes it all the more meaningful that the purchase of her prints will support such women. “I hope my art sends the message that women have the capacity to do anything and should always do so while exerting their independence and originality,” she says.

The Dormify x ArtSugar collection is exclusively available on dormify.com. Each print sells for $145, though one lucky shopper can win one of their own — plus a $500 Dormify gift card — by heading back to the site and entering the sweepstakes from July 26 to July 28. Now that is pretty sweet.
