Don't throw away your shot to see Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'DuckTales' debut (exclusive video)
How wonderful it is to be alive right now, indeed. Hamilton mastermind and self-confessed DuckTales fanboy Lin-Manuel Miranda is joining the cast of the rebooted fine-feathered adventure series, and Yahoo Entertainment has your exclusive first look. In an episode airing May 11 at 8 p.m. on the Disney Channel, the Tony-, Grammy- and Emmy-winning entertainer makes his debut as Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, or, as he’s better known to DuckBurg citizens, Gizmoduck. A fan favorite from the show’s original run in the late ’80s, Gizmoduck had a high-tech suit that made him DuckTales’ answer to RoboCop or the Terminator … minus their penchant for killing, of course. The character proved so popular that he had several crossover appearances on another beloved Disney cartoon, Darkwing Duck — a show we’re still hoping to see rebooted one day. For the new DuckTales, Fenton’s pre-Gizmoduck profession has been changed from accountant to scientist, and he’s brought into Scrooge McDuck’s fold by Launchpad, who is keeping a wary eye on the town’s leading tech genius, Mark Beaks.
As the clip above illustrates, Fenton’s transformation into Gizmoduck isn’t necessarily a smooth one. The good news is that he’ll be sticking around throughout the show’s summer season, which means he’ll have lots of time for more practice runs in his robosuit. And it goes without saying that we expect Miranda to write the greatest Gizmoduck theme song ever.
