Donald Trump Jr. dumped on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s “Our future is female” tweet, and Marco Rubio panned it too.

The Democratic senator from New York tweeted Tuesday, “Our future is female, intersectional, powered by our belief in one another. And we’re just getting started.” The message was interpreted as support for more women entering politics. According to Time, historic numbers of women were elected to Congress during the November midterm elections, including those who are bisexual and Muslim, and Native American.

In a tweet, Trump wrote sarcastically, “Good to know. My girls will be excited about this. When is it appropriate to let my boys (9, 7 and 6 years old) that there’s no future for them? Not sure this is a winning platform but you be you.”

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio also made an edit, tweeting, “Our future is: AMERICAN
An identity based not on gender, race, ethnicity or religion. But on the powerful truth that all people are created equal with a God given right to life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness.”

All three were badmouthed on Twitter — people wrote that Gillibrand’s remarks were sexist (“Could you imagine if a Senator said our future is Male??? This is what a double standard looks like”) and that Trump misunderstood: “Can someone tells Donald Trump Jr. that women accumulating power in a male-dominated country isn’t a threat to men, but a sign of a more inclusive future?”

A woman tweeted at Rubio, “You voted for Kavanaugh.” Many protested the October confirmation of the Supreme Court justice as a setback to women after the sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh.

Trump has three sons and two daughters with ex-wife Vanessa Trump, and once said that he’s scared for men in the #MeToo movement. “I’ve got boys and I’ve got girls and when I see what’s going on now, it’s scary for all things,” he told the U.K. DailyMailTV in October. When asked whether he fears more for his daughters or sons, he said, “I mean, right now, I’d say my sons.”
