No one expected the Miami Dolphins to run roughshod over the NFL this season.
But through two games, they’re running into the record books for futility, outscored 102-10 after Sunday’s shutout by the New England Patriots.
Journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick has started both games at quarterback, completing just half of his 50 pass attempts with one touchdown and four interceptions — three of those picks were against New England, with two taken back for touchdowns.
Despite Fitzpatrick’s struggles and league-low 39.9 quarterback rating (the second-worst QB by rating through two games is Chicago’s Mitchell Trubisky at 65.0), first-year head coach Brian Flores isn’t ready to make a change.
Asked by media on Monday who the team’s starting quarterback is, Flores said, “It’s Fitz.”
He added, “but after a couple of weeks like that, we’re evaluating all positions. ... We haven’t made any final decisions yet.”
It doesn’t seem the door is closed on Josh Rosen to take over, even to take over this week given Flores’ comments.
Rosen, who finished the game against the Patriots, wasn’t great either, completing just 7-of-18 passes and had an interception, but there were also two drops.
Flores made sure to note Rosen “made some good throws. We could have helped him out by catching a couple of those passes.”
