Dolly Parton has just revealed the amusing reason why she turned down an invitation for tea with Kate Middleton. It comes as the country legend was recently chatting with BBC Radio 2 while promoting her upcoming album, Rockstar, which is set for release on the 17th of November this year.

While explaining how the invite came about to host Claudia Winkleman (Dolly told the Strictly presenter that she received the offer while in London for work), the 77-year-old playfully disclosed why she couldn't make the date.

"This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate but I couldn’t even go," she said.

"I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me and one of these days I’m going to get to do that – that would be great," the Jolene singer added, before joking that she declined the invite because "she wasn’t going to promote [her] rock album."

"So I had to say no," she quipped.

Dolly did get more serious as the interview went on though, and explained how - despite loving the people and "the feel of London" - she rarely has time to take in the sights of the city while there on business. (Perhaps the real reason tea with Kate wasn't on the cards, then?) Instead, she revealed that in the past, she and her touring crew would have to plan in leisure time due to their schedule being so busy.

But since Dolly recently expressed that her touring days are behind her (these days, she plans on just performing at major festivals - casual right?) it should mean that she has a little more time on her hands for things like having a cuppa with royalty...
