Dolly Parton Got Her COVID-19 Vaccine And Had A Message For All The 'Cowards' Out There

Dolly Parton got her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine this week and she announced it in the best possible way...with a fashionable selfie and a video singing a parody of her song Jolene.

The music icon posted a photo receiving the first dose of the Moderna vaccine on Tuesday afternoon. There is a lot to love about the photo, from the fact that she is getting the vaccine at all, to the fact that she seemed to pick out the perfect top for the occasion, one with cut-outs to make inoculation a breeze. Her vaccine was also administered by Dr. Naji Abumrad of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, who, according to NPR, has been a friend of Dolly's since meeting in 2013 when she went to the emergency room following a car accident.

Even the caption is perfect. It reads: "Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine." This likely (OK, definitely!) refers to the fact that Dolly donated $1 million to the Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology, and Inflammation last year which in part funded a research project concerning the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, as well as two other projects related to the pandemic.

Dolly followed up the photo with a video showing her actually getting the shot (which she says only stung a little from the alcohol swab!) and encouraging others to get their vaccine once they're eligible. "I'm old enough to get it and I'm smart enough to get it," she says in the video. She also included a parody cover of her iconic song "Jolene," replacing the title with the word "vaccine."

"Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I'm begging of you please don't hesitate," she sings in the video. "Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, 'cause once you're dead then that's a bit too late."

Dolly also had a message for anyone who might be doubtful or skeptical of the vaccines: "I just wanted to say to all you cowards out there: Don't be such a chicken squat! Get out there and get your shot."
