Doja Cat Debuts Large Bat Tattoo on Her Back — See Photos

Doja Cat is adding to her collection of body art. The musician just debuted a giant back tattoo with a significant meaning.

Doja showed off the new ink on Instagram, sharing a few pics of the back-spanning bat skeleton by celebrity tattoo artist Mr. K at Bang Bang Tattoo in New York City. The tattoo takes up Doja's entire back, starting at the base of her neck, with the bat's wings spread across each shoulder blade. The tattoo itself is huge, but the bat skeleton is done in the most delicate, painstaking detail, giving it an ethereal beauty despite the fact that it's a tattoo of animal bones.

The design seems to have a deep relevance for Doja, who also posted a screenshot of an article about bat motifs with a specific portion highlighted. "Bats often represent death in the sense of letting go of the old and bringing in the new," the snippet says. "They are symbols of transition, of initiation, and the start of a new beginning." Clearly, something about the bat resonates with her and could be a hint at what's next for the rapper.

Doja has been steadily adding more ink as of late, including the antelope skull tattoo by Dr. Woo she got in late March. She also has a portrait of the mythological creature from Fortunio Liceti's De Monstris, and after some followers accused her of Satanism, the musician clapped back. "If ur calling me demonic, honestly werk cuz like I love that u ate fr," she tweeted.

Doja has definitely been feeling the animal motif both in her body art and her red carpet looks, including the now-infamous cat prosthetics and Oscar de la Renta gown she wore at the Met Gala, even speaking in meows on the red carpet. If we know anything about Doja, it's that she always has a surprise up her sleeve, so the bat tattoo is probably just the beginning.
