These dog treats are baked in a hot car to remind owners how dangerous it is to leave their pooches in the car on a warm day.
It’s estimated that hundreds of dogs around the world die every year for heat exhaustion after being left in a vehicle on a hot day. When it’s 75 degrees Fahrenheit outside, the temperature inside a car can reach more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit in just 25 minutes. It it’s 85 degrees Fahrenheit outside, it only takes 10 minutes to reach 104 degrees Fahrenheit inside a vehicle.
Pet product company Earth Paws created Hot Hounds treats to remind owners just how hot a car can get. The Canadian company is selling a limited line of the treats online, with all proceeds donated to the SPCA.
The American Veterinary Medical Association warns owners that even if it’s cloudy outside or you leave a window cracked temperatures inside a car can still become deadly in minutes. One study found that cracking a window had very little effect on the temperature inside a parked car.
When it doubt, it’s safest to leave your pup at home.
