A dog found a big bone that turned out to be human. Police are seeking answers

Law enforcement in South Carolina are searching an area where partial human remains were found this week near a residence and creek.

A homeowner called police Monday after his dog found a large bone, which was later determined to belong to a human woman, according to a press release from the Seneca Police Department.

The individual was about 5'1" to 5'7" and was 25 to 45 years old, according to a statement from the county coroner's office.

Police searched the area with cadaver dogs. They expanded the search area Wednesday with more people and equipment, police said. Police found more partial remains Wednesday around a creek in the area.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting in the search.

"A specimen will be submitted to the SLED laboratory in an attempt to collect DNA to be used for identification and to compare to known missing persons, including the two recently reported missing women from Oconee County," a press release from the coroner's office stated.
