Netflix's The Midnight Club is the latest horror series to hit the platform - and this one is officially chilling.

Based on the 1994 novel by Christopher Pike, the show follows a group of terminally ill teens living in a hospice. The dark twist? They make a pact to contact one another from the grave.

There were lots of twists and turns with this one (as well as many a jump scare). So what happened in the Midnight Club finale and how did the series end?

What happens to Ilonka?

The series' final episode had a lot going on. First up, there's Ilonka. It's revealed that the mystery woman she's been visiting in the woods (Shasta) is actually Julia Jayne - the woman who disappeared from Brightcliffe Hospice back in the 1960s (the series is set in the '90s).

We also find out more about the Paragon Diaries. When Julia left the hospice in 1968, she went to visit Regina Ballard, who had previously lived at Brightcliffe (before it was a hospice) with her daughter Athena in the 1930s. Athena's journal is what Ilonka calls the Paragon Diaries. The Paragon began as a group interested in alternative medicine, but became a cult focused on worshiping the five daughters of Asclepius, the Greek God of medicine, in order to cure illness.

However, it turns out Julia is using Ilonka in order to gain access to the hospice's basement so she can perform one of the Paragon rituals. Julia's tea then ends up poising the three other women taking part in the ceremony; Julia escapes but Ilonka and Dr Stanton manage to save the women's lives.

Elsewhere for Ilonka, we also see her and Kevin finally sharing a kiss, with Kevin opening up about how he feels.

What happens to Dr Stanton?

OK, this one was a big revelation. All through the series, Dr Georgia Stanton was a positive force at the hospice, protecting patients from threat (and particularly from the Paragon cult). However, in a flashback to the 1930s, we see old newspaper articles which suggest she may have actually been involved in the Paragon cult all along. One surprising scene also shows her removing her wig to reveal a Paragon tattoo on the back of her neck. Argh. All is not as it seems!

Dr Stanton's real identity is still a mystery by the end of the series, leaving viewers hoping for a season two. As for current fan theories, some are suggesting that she could even be Regina Ballard's daughter Athena - which would make sense given the fact that Brightcliffe is Athena's old home.
