When it comes to *complicated* sci-fi shows, epic series Manifest is about as gripping as they come.

The show was originally aired on NBC in the US, though it was cancelled after season three. However, there's good news for fans, as a fourth and final season has now arrived on Netflix.

Manifest season four part one dropped on the streaming platform last Friday (4 November), with viewers already looking ahead to series four part two.

Part one consists of 10 episodes but, as we said, this one is complicated. So, if you're in need of a recap, here's a run-through of the Manifest S4P1 ending explained...

Manifest season 4 part 1 ending explained

As a quick Manifest summary, the series focuses on the passengers of fictional Flight 828 which went missing in 2013 only to remerge five years later, with the passengers not realising that any time had passed. Things start to get stranger as the passengers head back into their normal lives, where they start to experience visions of the future named "callings" and clues over the day that they will die.

At the heart of the story is the Stone family: Michaela, brother Ben and his son Cal were all on the flight, while Ben's wife Grace and Cal's twin Olive weren't. There's also fellow passenger Angelina, who becomes obsessed with Ben and Grace's new baby Eden - and the S3 finale saw Angelina tragically stabbing Grace and kidnapping Eden.

As for season four, the show picks up two years later. In episode five, Ben finally manages to take Eden back, with Angelina then appearing to die in an explosion at her cult compound. However, at the same time, we also found out that Cal's cancer has returned and he only has days left.

There's also a revelation about the "calling" death dates: the numbers actually point towards to the apocalypse. However, there might be a solution. The passenger's disappearances were initially linked to traces of sapphire and, in season four, we learn that Omega Sapphires could be the answer to stopping the their deaths and the apocalypse.

In the S4 part 1 finale, we see the Stone family trying to track down the last remaining Omega Sapphire, although they don't know that Angelina (who is still alive) has already stolen it.

Ben then has a vision of Grace asking him to bring Eden to her, so he takes Eden to Grace's grave. However, Angelina is waiting for him there, with the sapphire now giving her the power to create fake callings. Ben and Angelina then ask Eden to choose between them (after Eden spent two years believing Angelina was her mother). Eden chooses Ben and Angelina runs away - though not for long.

At the same time, Olive, TJ and Zeke come up with a plan to save Cal so that he can help to prevent the apocalypse.

Zeke uses his empath powers to take Cal's cancer away and give it to himself, sadly dying in his place. Cal is then able to go head-to-head with Angelina in a "vision" set on the original Flight 828. He seems to take the Omega Sapphire from her, with the real stone then shattering in Angelina's hand back in real life. However, the episode's closing scene shows Angelina walking with a piece of the sapphire glowing and stuck into her hand.

So, where does that leave us for season 4, part 2? The fate of humanity hinges on Cal, Angelina and the sapphire - so we'll likely see the pair in a fight once again. And will Earth be saved from disaster?
