On this episode of In The Know: DIY, darling of design and innovator of interiors, Tay Beepboop (@taybeepboop), teaches you step-by-step how to create your very own, custom lampshade, guaranteed to elevate any surface in your home!

Tools & Materials Used

Step 1: Mold The Base Shape Of The Lampshade

Place a styrene sheet over an upside-down large stainless steel bowl. Put on heat-safe gloves and use the heat gun to mold the edges and corners of the styrene sheet around the curves of the bowl.

Step 2: Mold The Rest Of The Lampshade

Cut the styrene into smaller squares, then use a smaller metal bowl to warp the sheets with the heat gun.

Step 3: Super Glue The Lampshade Together
After molding the styrene sheets to your liking, super glue the inner center of the styrene lampshade onto the top of the lamp base. Then, super glue the other warped styrene pieces onto the larger base, creating an overlapping tiled effect. Finally, use the heat gun to make any additional adjustments to the lampshade’s shape, then plug it in!
