District pairings set for MHSAA boys' tournament

The MHSAA post season tournament for the boys begins on Monday evening.

Sturgis, which plays in Division 1 again this year, will play in the opening round game on Monday evening. The Trojans are 9-10 and drew a first-round matchup with St. Joseph, which is 9-11 on the season. The winner of that game, which will be played at 5:30 p.m. inside Portage Northern High School at the Igloo, will take on Portage Central in the second round. The Mustangs are 13-7. Mattawan and Portage Northern will also square off, the winner of that game plays Stevensville-Lakeshore.

In Division 2 action, Constantine High School will host a district. The Falcons play in the opening game against Vicksburg on Monday at 7 p.m. The winner between those opponents will advance to take on Three Rivers, which finished as the second seed in the district at 11-9. On the opposite side of the bracket, Edwardsburg and Niles will play in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Bronson also hosts a district, it’s in Division 3. The Vikings, Centreville and White Pigeon are all in that district. White Pigeon plays in the opener on Monday at 5:30 p.m. against Union City. The Chiefs are 12-8 on the season, Union City is 8-11. The winner of that game will play 17-3 Centreville. Bronson, which is 11-9 on the year, plays the winner of Quincy and Reading, which will take place on Monday night.

Burr Oak and Mendon are taking part in the Mendon District in Division 4. Tekonsha (5-14) will take on Athens (6-14) in the opener on Monday night. Colon, the top overall seed in the district at 15-4, will play 4-16 Mendon on Wednesday night in the second game. The first game will see second-seeded Burr Oak (10-9) play the winner of Tekonsha and Athens at 5:30 p.m.

Marcellus, at 1-19, will play Howardsville Christian (4-16) in the district opener in Lawrence. That game will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening. The winner of the game will advance to take on site host Lawrence, which is 10-10 on the season.
