Disney rep apologizes after Disneyland Paris employee 'destroyed' proposal: 'I would have lost my mind'
A proposal that took place at Disneyland Paris has blown up on Reddit — and not in a good way.

Reddit user u/wasgehtlan initially posted the proposal video in the “I’m a total piece of s***” forum and claimed to be friends with the man who was proposing.

“POS destroyed my best friends moment,” u/wasgehtlan captioned the clip. “He asked for permission beforehand.”
In the video — which has since been reposted and covered by multiple media outlets over the weekend — u/wasgehtlan’s friend and his significant other are seen standing in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. After the friend gets down on one knee and gives his spiel, but before his new fiancée could actually touch the ring, a Disney employee scurries into the scene and grabs the ring.
The employee then seems to gesture to the couple to move forward while another employee, slightly out-of-frame, also waves at the couple to move.
“She said yes,” u/wasgehtlan’s friend can be heard saying.
“Yes, that’s great — over here will be even better,” the Disney employee replied.
Before the clip cuts off, booing and jeers can be heard from the surrounding crowd.
“Did he really take the ring out of his hand???!” one person asked on Reddit.
“I would have lost my mind,” another commenter agreed.
A 2018 study looked through proposal-related Instagram hashtags to find the top 10 landmarks people propose at around the world, and Disneyland Paris came out on top. The research found that one in every 500 proposals took place there; while one in every 555 proposals were at Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Florida and one in 1,428 proposals were at Walt Disney’s Epcot Park in Florida.
Proposals are so popular at Disney that there’s a whole page dedicated to them on its site. According to the page, guests are “not required to contact Disney in order to propose” but can work with cast members to “plan something more elaborate.”
“We regret how this was handled,” a Disney spokesperson told Newsweek. “We have apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right.”
This isn’t the first time Disney has been in hot water because of a proposal gone wrong. In 2018, the Orlando Sentinel reported that a man was suing Disney for $15,000, alleging that a 24-year-old employee had ruined his proposal. The man had planned to propose in front of Cinderella’s castle at Magic Kingdom and was waiting for his future bride when he was told that he was in the way of an oncoming parade and needed to move.
