Disney Is Bringing Even More Magic to Its New Cruise Ship by Partnering With the Make-A-Wish Foundation
Disney is about to have something on board its newest vessel no other cruise liner will have: actual magic.
When Disney Cruise Line’s fifth ship debuts in January 2022, it will have a fairytale-inspired atrium, Rapunzel dangling her flaxen hair over its stylized stern and a dream come true for select families on board. The ship, named the Disney Wish, will have a tie-in with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Walt Disney Company has a nearly 40-year history with the foundation, granting 130,000 “wishes” for children with terminal illnesses since 1980. Disney is not only the largest wish-granter in existence, but was part of the very first wish granted by Make-A-Wish Foundation and continues to grant 9,000 in tandem with the non-profit each and every year.
Still, it’s the first time Disney Cruise Line, which was voted as the top ocean cruise line by Travel + Leisure readers, has embarked on an endeavor of this kind. A more informed announcement will come next Spring for Make-A-Wish’s 40th anniversary, but the collaboration between the charitable organization and Disney Cruise Line’s newest vessel is one to revere.
Disney Wish is just one of three new ships Disney Cruise Line will roll out for maiden voyages in 2022, 2023 and 2024, respectively. With four existing ships, these new vessels will nearly double Disney Cruise Line’s fleet over the next five years.
Disney Cruise Line also announced at D23 Expo that it will be creating a second private island, similar to its fan-favorite getaway Castaway Cay. Lighthouse Point, the new Bahamian port of call exclusive to Disney Cruise Line sailings, will be located on the island of Eleuthera and pay homage to local culture, entertainment and design.
