Few movies have achieved the level of cultural saturation that Dirty Dancing has in the decades since its 1987 release. Something about the teen drama with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey hit a nerve—especially that dance lift, which has developed a mystique of its own—and has continued to enchant audiences all these years.
Now—after rumors first surfaced in July that a sequel was in the works—Lionsgate has confirmed that there's a new Dirty Dancing movie on the way. Here's what we know so far.
Jennifer Grey will reprise her iconic role.
Jon Feltheimer, the CEO of Lionsgate (the company that owns the distribution rights for the Dirty Dancing films) has confirmed that Jennifer Grey is starring in and executive producing a new Dirty Dancing movie, per Deadline. Grey, of course, played Frances "Baby" Houseman in the original 1987 feature.
Details are still scarce.
"It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the Company’s history,"
The movie is still in early stages, so it'll be awhile before anything hits theaters. But rest assured: should any new revelations surface, Town & Country will be sure to update this article.
