The Director of Robert Pattinson’s Batman Movie Is Getting Threatened — By His Friends!

When you take control of a beloved franchise, you expect to feel some pressure from its fans. What you don’t expect is for hundreds of them to simultaneously “threaten” you, but that’s exactly what Matt Reeves just went through.

Reeves was tapped to direct The Batman after Ben Affleck left the project. His friend and frequent collaborator Michael Giacchino was speaking on the seventh annual “Musical Anatomy of a Superhero” panel on the first day of San Diego Comic-Con, so naturally he took the opportunity to roast his friend.

“Hey Matt, don’t screw up our Batman movie,” the entire crowd says in unison in a video Giacchino shot.

“Yeah you heard ’em. Don’t screw it up, don’t screw it up,” he adds.

Reeves shared the video to Twitter with the caption “Nothing like a little encouragement,” tagging his friend and including heart and bat emoji.

It’s definitely a case of one friend ribbing another, but it also seems like Giacchino might be angling for a job. He composed music for Doctor Strange and Spider-Man: Far from Home, and he won an Oscar as the composer of the score for Up.

The Batman does not currently have a composer and, given their past collaborations and his relevant experience, Giacchino is likely on Reeves’s shortlist to do the music for his own superhero flick. He was asked about it on the panel and had a very noncommital reply.

“I don’t know. We’ll see. I just know that my friend is working really hard right now. Anyway, I’ll say that.”

Reeves has, of course, already decided that Robert Pattinson will play the caped crusader in that film, something else he celebrated on Twitter.

Reeves has also said that his film will be a “defining” and “very personal” story. Here’s hoping he follows the advice of hundreds of strangers and doesn’t screw it up.
