Dior channels Ancient Greek for Cruise 2022 collection

Amid the pandemic, Dior hosted its Cruise 2022 show at the Panathenaic stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games was held in Athens. There, Maria Grazia Chiuri showcased designs inspired by the works of Giorgio De Chirico to vases decorated with wrestling matches by Alexandre Iolas.

The show was attended by a number of personalities including actress Catherine Deneuve, Angelababy, South Korean singer Jisoo, model Cara Delevingne and Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as the Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

In the show, giant silhouettes stand out in close-up on sketches by the artist Pietro Ruffo, and are camouflaged on a selection of sportswear pieces.

The collection featured mostly shades in gold, white, black and blue, and included sportswear pieces and suit wear inspired by clothes worn by icon Marlene Dietrich.

"When I arrived in Dior I found the archive and I said, one day it would be great to realise again this trip in Greece. In some ways, it’s an anniversary," she told AFP.
