Popeyes is celebrating its 50th anniversary by resurrecting the Cajun Rice side for a limited time.

The news comes after its gut-wrenching move to discontinue the beloved side last year, which reportedly resulted in thousands of tweets from customers demanding its return.

According to a news release, Popeyes "recognized the flurry of emotions it caused among disheartened fans." The Louisiana-based chicken chain knew it had to give them what they want: another taste of its flavorful spiced rice.

So, starting today, Popeyes is giving people what they want. Cajun Rice will return to menus across the country for a limited time only.

Popeyes is also marking its golden anniversary by giving customers a promotion that pays homage to the menu item that stared it all 50 years ago: five pieces of golden, crispy chicken for just $6.99.

But wait, there's more! Starting today, guests are also being treated to a sweet new dessert at restaurants. The Strawberry Cheesecake Fried Pie is a delicious strawberry fried pie filled with a creamy cheesecake and graham cracker filling.
