How many husbands has Diane Keaton had?

Diane Keaton has had a total of zero husbands in her life — she has never been married. Keaton has given various answers as to why she never walked down the aisle over the years, including, “[N]o one has ever asked me to marry them, either, so that might be a good answer. I should’ve started with that and called it a day."

Is Diane Keaton married with kids?

Diane Keaton is not married, though she does have two kids. She adopted two children on her own, becoming a mother for the first time at the age of 50.

Who did Diane Keaton have kids with?

Diane Keaton did not have kids with anyone — she adopted her two children on her own. She adopted her daughter Dexter in 1996 when she was 50. She adopted her son Duke in 2001 when she was 55.

Who fathered Diane Keaton's children?

It is not known who fathered Diane Keaton’s two children as they are both adopted. Keaton adopted daughter Dexter in 1996 and son Duke in 2001. It is said Keaton adopted her children after the death of her own father when she was struck by her own mortality and the shortness of life, as well as the idea that there must be something more meaningful waiting for her in life.

Keaton is happily looking forward to having grandchildren one day, as her daughter Dexter Keaton has married Jordan White. When asked if she is eagerly anticipating becoming a grandmother, her response was, “Oh God, yeah … I can’t imagine what that will be like. It’s not really something [my daughter Dexter and her husband] are discussing right now. I’m going to love the kid, probably.”

Why didn't Diane Keaton ever marry?

Diane Keaton has been candid as to the reasoning behind her choice not to get married. In an interview with Friends star Lisa Kudrow, Keaton explained, “It goes back to my mother, because, for me, most everything does. I love my dad, of course — that goes without saying—but she was always there, and he was always working. He was working hard, and he was really interesting. And he loved her, too… I saw how much she gave up. I mentioned watching her get that crowning glory and being Mrs. Highland Park. After that, we moved down to Santa Ana, and it was over. There was no more trying things out. I feel like she chose family over her dreams. And she was just the best mother, but I think that she is the reason why I didn’t get married. I didn’t want to give up my independence.”

Keaton was quick to quip, “By the way, no one has ever asked me to marry them, either, so that might be a good answer. I should’ve started with that and called it a day."

As for whether she has an active dating life, Keaton addressed that in a 2019 interview with InStyle. When asked if she gets asked out all the time, she responded, “Never. All right? Let’s just get that straight. That one’s important. I haven’t been on a date in, I would say, 35 years. No dates.”

Diane Keaton and Al Pacino started a romantic relationship sometime during the production of 1974’s The Godfather: Part II. They maintained an uncommitted, on-and-off romance throughout the years until sometime after 1990’s The Godfather: Part III. The relationship reportedly ended for good when Keaton issued an ultimatum to Pacino: either they get married or they break up.

Of the relationship’s end, Keaton has said, “I worked hard on that one. I went about it in not a perfect way.”

When did Al Pacino date Diane Keaton?

Diane Keaton has admitted to having an instant attraction to her The Godfather co-star Al Pacino, saying, “[I] had a crush … I was mad for him. Charming, hilarious, a nonstop talker. There was an aspect of him that was like a lost orphan, like this kind of crazy idiot savant. And oh, gorgeous!”

Even so, it was not until during the production of the movie’s sequel two years later, 1974’s The Godfather: Part II that the pair explored a romantic connection in real life. The relationship was never fully committed, however, and reportedly ended sometime after the production of 1990’s The Godfather: Part III due to this fact. Keaton has admitted to pushing Pacino for a commitment, and when she presented the ultimatum of either marriage or calling it quits for good, Pacino chose the latter. This means that Keaton and Pacino had an on-again-off-again uncommitted romance from around 1973 until 1990, give or take a year or two.

Keaton wrote in her 2011 memoir Then Again, “For me, the Godfathers, all three of them, were about one thing—Al. It was as simple as that.”

The two engaged in a lengthy on-again-off-again romance for many years, from around 1973 until around 1990. The relationship ended due to Pacino’s unwillingness to commit to Keaton and she finally put an ultimatum to him, either he marry her or they end things. Pacino did not want to commit to Keaton, but even so, the pair remain on friendly terms to this day, with Pacino paying tribute to the Annie Hall actress in 2017 when she was awarded an AFI Lifetime Achievement Award. The acclaimed actor even ended his speech with, “I love you forever.”

He likes an older woman."

However, with neither party either officially confirming or denying the relationship, it is impossible to know for certain whether or not they did indeed date. We’d like to think they did—in fact, we’d ship it!
