HGTV star Tarek El Moussa and Selling Sunset's Heather Rae Young recently became engaged after a romantic weekend celebrating their one-year anniversary culminated in a surprise proposal. While the coronavirus pandemic couldn't stop Tarek from getting down on one knee to propose to Heather, the couple won't officially tie the knot until things are "back to normal." For now, plan to mark your calendars for about one year out.

"It's really important to us that we have a proper wedding," Tarek exclusively shared with E! News. "So whenever we get back to normal, we will be getting married. We're expecting it to be less than a year." While we don't yet know the date, we do know several key details about the stunning diamond rock Heather is now wearing on her ring finger. Here's everything we know, so far.

The specs: A colorless, eight carat, emerald cut diamond

Heather spilled new details about her stunning engagement ring over the weekend on Instagram. Tarek chose a colorless, eight carat (a lucky number), emerald cut (her favorite cut) diamond for her. The single stone is set on a gold band.

"The diamond is perfect all the way around—just like Heather," Tarek recently told People magazine. "I also picked this ring, because eight is her lucky number.”

Tarek also told the outlet that he chose gold for the band so it would pair with other jewelry he's given to young through the course of their one-year relationship.

"It's insane, I can't stop staring at it," Heather told People. "It's exactly what I wanted. It's perfect. It's beautiful.”

Tarek found the diamond on the other side of the world

"Over the last year, I figured out she loves an emerald-cut diamond," Tarek also told E! News. "It turns out the one that I wanted wasn't the easiest one to find, so I had diamonds flying in from all around the world. And, then finally, I found the perfect one."

The "perfect one" was "shipped in from Europe," Heather revealed on Instagram. Tarek worked with the Los Angeles-based concierge jewelry designer Benny Hayoun of Benny and the Gems to procure the one-of-a-kind piece.

Heather almost saw the ring in the run up to the surprise proposal

"One day, when I was on set with Tarek when he was filming Flipping 101, I was hanging out in the sprinter," Heather recalled on Instagram. "Tarek came in and shut the blinds and said, 'Do not under any circumstance come outside or open the blinds."

"I asked him for days, 'What were you doing, when can you tell me?' He wouldn’t budge. It was a hard no," Heather continued her story. "Well, turns out he was meeting with Benny to look at the diamond."

Tarek and Heather confirmed to E! News that the engagement, in which he surprised Heather, was filmed by HGTV. This points to the fact that the ring selection process may make it to Flipping 101. Moreover, it's also within the realm of possibility that the ceremony itself could be documented for the small screen.

"That's something we need to sit down and really discuss—if we really want all of the cameras around," Heather told E! News. "But I also think it's special to have it documented. We can look back and have it forever—just like the engagement."

Tarek shared a personal video of Heather moments after she put on the ring

Tarek recorded a video on his cell phone with Heather "shortly" after he took one knee, in which the new bride- and groom-to-be thanked Benny for helping them find the perfect ring. Though the footage was originally intended to be personal, Tarek ultimately decided that it was "just too damn cute not to share."

"Benny, it's so late we weren't sure if we could call you so we're doing a video," Tarek says at the top of the video, which he posted to Instagram. "She said, 'Yes!'"

After Heather flashed her hand to Benny for the first time, Tarek boasted: "She loves the diamond."

"I love it," Heather concurred. " I can't wait to do more to it. It's gorgeous. I'm obsessed." '

"Oh, yeah. We need to fix this thing up," Tarek added. "We gotta make it fancy."

"I need it a little bit smaller, too. Well, not the diamond but the band," Heather said with a chuckle.

The ring was sized three different times

Heather revealed in an Instagram Story in August that her ring had to be sized three different times. The bride-to-be made it clear that the many sizings were not her jeweler's "fault," but rather her own. As it turns out, Heather's ring finger is quite small. Specifically, it is between a size 3.5 and 3.75.

"I didn't realize how tiny my fingers were. It's kind of crazy," Heather remarked when she got her ring back. "But look — how pretty!"

The ring will also grow in size over time

Tarek earlier told People that he plans to "add more elements" to the ring over time. After selecting the main stone, the process moving forward will be a collaborative one.

"Right now, I just got her the main stone, but what I want to do is design the rest of the ring together," he said. "I provide the stone, and now we actually build the ring.”

For now, Heather is over the moon with Tarek's pick.

"I’m absolutely obsessed with it and can’t stop staring at it!!" she wrote on Instagram over the weekend. "It’s perfect for me in every way! Thank you Mr. El Moussa for making me the happiest!"

Tarek says he's become a "better man" after falling in love with Heather. Click here to read a definitive timeline of their incredible love story.
