Devs Looks Like 2020's Most Promising New TV Show

Alex Garland might be one of the most exciting writer-directors working today, and his latest project, Devs, looks as trippy as anything else he's ever come up with. The Annihilation and Ex Machina director is taking his talents to FX on Hulu (read: Hulu) for a new tech thriller miniseries in which nothing is as it seems, computers are bad, and a woman is in a scary unfamiliar situation looking for a man. Hey, the guy knows what he likes.

First up: This is a gorgeous trailer. It's got all the visual flair of another FX project, Legion, only hopefully without any of its many, many storytelling follies. What's more: look at this capital-C Cast. Maniac standout Sonoya Mizuno stars as Lily, who the show describes as "a computer engineer investigating a quantum computing company called Amaya, run by Forest (Nick Offerman). She believes this company is responsible for the disappearance of her boyfriend."

Offerman as a mercurial, sinister tech mogul? Sign me up! Alison Pill and Cailee Spaeny also star. This is an exciting group.

Little else is known about Devs thus far, beyond Garland's involvement, the fact it's being produced by FX to stream on Hulu (and presumably later appear on the network itself), and that it's being released on March 5. Please mark me down as "can't wait," thanks.
