Another woman has come forward to tell her story of abuse and manipulation at the hands of R&B singer R. Kelly.
In July 2017, BuzzFeed ran a shocking report from three former members of Kelly's inner circle who claimed he was running an abusive cult of young girls who were coerced into relationships with the singer under the impression it was going to help their music careers.
Now Kelly's former girlfriend, Kitti Pope, told a similar story of abuse to Rolling Stone.
Pope's account supports the claims that Kelly has kept numerous women "hostage," at his homes in Chicago and Atlanta and robbed them of their personal freedoms, including eating and using the bathroom.
Jones says she met Kelly in 2011 while she was working as a radio D.J. He eventually convinced her to leave her job and move with him at one of his properties in Chicago. She says he had a tight grip over the household, and though she knew he had other women living there, they rarely crossed paths.
Mostly because they had to text him for permission to go to the bathroom or get something to eat.
Jones said she quickly realized how abusive the singer could be when she questioned him about the video released during his child pornography case while she was on a trip to Dallas.
“He said, ‘Bitch, don’t you ever f***ng accuse me of something like that,'” she said.
When Kelly picked Jones up from the airport, she claims he kicked her and repeatedly slapped her in the face. Though a honeymoon phase followed the attack, the abuse came back. She said her most common form of punishment was withholding food.
According to her, she once went two and half days without eating — even though she begged the men who worked for Kelly to give her some food.
She eventually contacted a friend who had a pizza delivered to Kelly's studio. At the time, Jones didn't have access to any money.
By 2013, Jones said Kelly started including other women in their sexual encounters and even had a woman crawl on her knees over to Jones to perform oral sex. “He told me, ‘I raised her. I’ve trained this bitch. This is my pet.'”
Jones also claims that Kelly forced her to perform oral sex on another woman. At one point, she considered suicide.
“I can either kill myself or kill him,” she said.
A month later, she told Kelly she wanted to go to Dallas to visit her son and packed for a one-way trip. For a few months after she left she thought Kelly was okay the way things ended, but when she went back to Chicago to pick up some of her things, he attacked her again.
“I walked on the bus and I was like, ‘Hey daddy!’ And I went to go hug him and he was like, ‘Bitch, I’m not giving you shit’ and he was just attacking me. I knew he wasn’t going to kill me, but it was a lot of force. I was thinking, ‘I’m not going to call the police.’ I just felt so stupid.”
Jones said speaking out now is her way of reclaiming her power and to be a witness to the women she still believes live in Kelly's sex cult. Kelly's lawyer responded to the accusations and denied anything but a "consensual relationship between two adults."
