Amber Lewis broke her recent Instagram silence to share a brave update about her health. The influential interior designer is recovering at home after a visit to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, commonly known as MS.

"To make a very long story short, the past couple weeks of my life have been some of the most confusing, scary, and challenging I have ever experienced," Lewis captioned a hospital gown selfie.

Lewis said the first thing she noticed was a feeling of numbness in her feet, which progressively moved through her body. She eventually went numb from her rib cage down, but she carried on until it was clear that something was "very wrong." When an MRI revealed that Lewis had lesions on her spinal chord and brain, her doctor instructed her to go to the emergency room right away.

Amidst all the craziness in the world, this post seems quite small and insignificant, but nonetheless I always want to stay transparent, and honor the open nature of the personal account I have created here. I want to explain some of my IG silence and share some recent personal stuff with y’all. To make a very long story short, the past couple weeks of my life have been some of the most confusing, scary, and challenging I have ever experienced. What quietly started as some weird numbness in my feet, has slowly but progressively moved throughout my body causing me to be numb from my rib cage down. At the onset of these symptoms I brushed it all off, and carried on until I got to a point where I knew something was VERY wrong. I was able to see my Dr who ordered an MRI. The results of the MRI revealed I had lesions on my spinal cord and my brain and my Dr. instructed me to get to an ER immediately, which I did. After lots more testing which included full brain, full spine, and optical MRI’S as well as a multitude of blood tests and a Lumbar Puncture, it has been confirmed I have a Demyelinating Disease called Multiple Sclerosis or ‘MS’ as it is more widely known. I am out of the hospital and currently at home, surrounded by nothing but love and support from family, friends, and my incredible work family. Even though there is a long road of healing ahead of me, I feel positive and determined to get through this coming out stronger on the other side. The decision to share this with you all has not come easy, especially during such uncertain times. However, a friend said to me “consider your life’s mission widened” and I feel that using my platform to share my story as it unfolds can only do good ... and right now, I’ll do anything that feels GOOD!!! Thanks in advance for any and all the healing vibes you can send my way!! I love and appreciate this community so much.. and I thank you for the continued support. Xoxo Amber // also, BIG love to the incredible nurses and doctors who despite the current events took such great care of me // #msawarenessmonth
