Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose doesn’t have traditional Hall of Fame numbers, but he believes he’s lived up to that honor. Rose said he believes he’s “a Hall of Famer,” but his statement comes with a pretty big caveat.

During a recent interview, Rose gave his thoughts on the situation, saying he’s “a Hall of Famer” to the people he “grew up with.”

A portion of Rose’s quote reads:

“I am a Hall of Famer. Not in everybody’s eyes, but to the people that I grew up with. Like, I made it. I executed. I got to where I was at. I been having these same expectations I have now, they were thrown on me in sixth grade. I achieved all that. I got through all that.”

That’s different from Rose outright saying he belongs in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. It’s more a comment on him reaching the NBA and playing 11 years despite having expectations placed on him at such a young age.

As far as the actual Hall of Fame is concerned, Rose may have been on pace if not for injuries. He tore his ACL and underwent multiple knee surgeries with the Bulls. Rose has been a solid contributor since his return, but hasn’t reached his pre-injury form.
