  • World of Dance season 3 is in full swing, with contestants from four divisions competing for the $1 million prize.

  • For the first time ever, WoD is featuring a Redemption Round, giving contestants who would have otherwise been eliminated a chance to progress to The Cut.

  • The Redemption Round faces two teams against each other in a "straight-up battle," says judge Derek Hough.

Just when you thought you knew exactly what to expect on season three of World of Dance (jaw-dropping performances, eye-candy judges, and harder-than-ever scoring), the show hits you with a plot twist.

Meet "The Redemption Round"-in short, a chance for about-to-be eliminated contestants to make a comeback. “In the past, we’ve lost some really, really great acts," WoD judge Derek Hough told Hollywood Life in a recent interview. "In the Duels, we might have had two acts competing against each other and one has to go home, and now we are able to save somebody."

How it works: The two highest-scoring competitors that didn't win will get a second chance to move on to The Cut, by competing in a head-to-head direct battle. "What’s so exciting about that is it’s like a do-or-die mentality that just brings out the most dramatic, the most exciting moments in the show," says Hough.

Take a sec to get to know all the 'World of Dance' judges this year:

The Cut, ICYDK, is the round immediately before Divisional Finals, which is the round immediately before the World Final-a.k.a. the one where the winner takes home the $1 million grand prize. In The Cut, contestants get matched with a mentor to help finesse their next performance, so it's a pretty big deal, especially for dancers who are looking to advance their careers beyond the show too.

The Redemption Round certainly sounds exciting-like one of those Pitch Perfect riff-offs but, ya know, a real live dance-off. Because TBD on how much (if any) time the contestants have to prepare a backup routine, especially when they have no clue who they'll be facing. I'm nervous just thinking about it.

I don't always agree with Derek, but he's right about one thing: This is going to bring out the dramatics. And I. Can't. Wait.
