It’s a sad day for Bachelor Nation: Today on Instagram, Demi Burnett and her fiancée Kristian Haggerty announced that they decided to call their super-cute romance quits. That’s right, y’all—Demi and Kristian broke up. I’ll allow you a moment to pour one out since I know this is an emotional time for everyone rn (myself included).

Unfortunately, people online have seen this breakup coming for a while. After Demi and Kristian made history as Bachelor Nation’s first same-sex couple ever and had that beyond-emotional proposal at the end of last season’s Bachelor in Paradise, Demi didn’t post a single thing about Kristian...like at all. Fans chalked it up to Demi and Kristian calling their relationship off at the time, but Demi kindly told everyone to f*ck off because her personal life is no one’s business.

“Every relationship is different and it’s like—I mean in the most respectful way—it’s nobody’s business how our relationship works. We both have so much going on right now,” Demi told Us Weekly after those breakup rumors hit earlier this month. “She’s in Florida, I’m in New York,but we do spend time together. Just because we don’t broadcast it doesn’t mean that we’re not together.” Alright, fair!

But then literally yesterday, people were suspicious as hell because Kristian’s sister, Caitlin Haggerty, posted a seriously shady comment under one of Demi’s recent Instagram pictures. Demi posted this sexy, thirst-trap-worthy pic:

Which now bring us to today. On Instagram, Demi posted a lengthy statement confirming the breakup and detailing why she and Kristian split. She wrote:

“What has always been at the forefront of our relationship is love and care for one another. Our priority is doing what is best for us. With a heavy heart full of love for one another, we have decided it is best for us to take a step back from our relationship. We ultimately want what is best for us in the long run and for us right now, that means being apart and growing individually.

“We have felt so much love and support from you all as you’ve followed our journey together and for that we are grateful. We will forever be proud of the impact our love story has made and we hope it has helped others feel more accepted and confident within themselves. We hope it reminded others they aren’t alone and don’t need to be ashamed of who they are.

“And we hope it shows that two people can love one another in different ways and for us right now, that is apart. But we remain committed to encouraging each other, supporting each other and continuing forward in a way best for us.”
