New Dell XPS Laptops Get Huge Boost to Graphics and CPU Power

Dell’s super slick XPS laptops will get speedy new CPUs, Nvidia GeForce RTX 30-Series graphics and a fresh OLED display option when they arrive in the summer of 2021.
The premium ultrabooks will adopt Intel’s new 11th-Gen Tiger Lake H-Series processors, promising big performance improvements for demanding productivity and multitasking, along with better power efficiency.
In the graphics department, buyers will see even bigger gains over last year’s model, with the introduction of Nvidia’s powerful RTX 30-Series GPUs, which is great news for closet gamers. Meanwhile, display buffs will rejoice in the return of an OLED display option in the XPS 15, after its hiatus in 2020. Expect super accurate color reproduction, deep blacks and bright HDR support in the new OLED screen.
The latest revisions of the XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptops will arrive this Summer, starting at $1,249.99 and $1,449.99 respectively. Exact launch dates will be revealed closer to release.
New Processors For All
Running on Intel’s latest 10nm+ architecture, the brand new 11th-Gen Intel Core CPUs promise significant leaps over previous generations, while also delivering improved power efficiency and cooler running temps. This means better performance for video/photo editing, compiling code, and all your productivity needs.
Intel says that a 15% improvement in single-thread performance over its last-gen products gives its new flagship Tiger Lake H-Series processors the fastest single-core speeds of any laptop CPU. It also claims a 40% boost to multi-core performance over last-gen, which is good news for aggressive multitasking, or those who do heavy compiling or exporting tasks.
Graphics will get a significant bump over the 2020 models, with the now aging Nvidia GeForce 1650 Ti being given the boot in favor of the RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti graphics in the XPS 15. Meanwhile, the XPS 17 goes up to the RTX 3060.
This will bring huge gains to gaming and 3D rendering over previous models, along with added support for cutting-edge graphics techniques, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing and DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). Other options include up to 64GB of RAM, fast SSD storage up to 4TB, and a large 87Whr battery.
The Return of OLED
After a strong first appearance in 2019, the OLED panel in the XPS 15 was left off the options list in 2020. The good news for display connoisseurs is that an OLED panel option will make a return to the roster for the 2021 model of the XPS 15.
The new 3.5k (3456 x 2160) OLED will deliver 100% Adobe RGB, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and 100,000:1 contrast ratio, according to Dell. DisplayHDR 500 and Dolby Vision support will also feature. Since OLED panels are known for their highly accurate color delivery, absolute blacks and extreme contrast, this should be a big upgrade for visual creators and media delivery.
Sadly, the OLED option will only be available in the new XPS 15 (sorry, big laptop fans). But it will be joined by a 4K (3840×2400) panel, boasting 100% Adobe RGB color, 99% DCI-P3, Display HDR400, and a 1600:1 contrast ratio. This panel will be available for both the 15- and 17-inch models, with touch screen options also offered.
