As the colder weather begins to bite, we're increasingly turning to energy saving hacks to help save money on our heating bills as we crank up the cosy.

There's no doubt that the air fryer has been the break-out appliance for helping to save the pennies during the cost of living crisis, but turns out it could be about to be replaced at the top by a duo of equally efficient money-savers - the dehumidifier and the heated airer.

According to John Lewis, sales of dehumidifiers and heated clothes airers are on the rise as cash-savvy Brits look to alternative ways to lower bills.

Sales of heated airers, with a 300w option, costing approximately 11p to run and offering a cheaper alternative to tumble drying, have risen by almost 50% compared to last year.

Meanwhile dehumidifier sales have tripled, as the colder weather means we're looking to reduce moisture and improve air quality in our homes.

"We’re seeing customers looking for savvy ways to manage their heating costs, with our range of energy-efficient products offering an ideal solution.

"Heated clothes airers and dehumidifiers are becoming the new air fryers as customers look for savvy ways to manage their heating costs," explains Roshni Chauhan, an electrical buyer for John Lewis.

Chauhan says both appliances offer a great alternative for helping to dry laundry indoors, and are cheaper to run than a traditional tumble dryer.

Despite being under threat of being toppled from its top thrifty spot, the poster child of energy saving hacks, the air fryer, remains popular with customers and is now in its third-year of unbroken growth.

Sales of air fryers have nearly doubled compared to last year alone, as customers continue to be drawn to a healthier and more cost effective way of cooking.

Other popular cost-conscious products proving on the rise right now include portable heaters and heated blankets and throws, as Brits look to hunker down this winter.

Sales of heated blankets last week were up by a third compared to the same period last year, while traditional fur throw sales have increased by 91% compared to this time in 2022.

A bestseller from the range includes the John Lewis Faux Fur Throw - as customers prepare cosy candle-lit, winter nights.
