DILLON THOMPSON: Move over, avocado toast. The new way to eat your avocados is by deep frying them. But is this recipe for greasy, cheesy, deep fried avocados really the best way to eat these things? To find out we're going to try this viral recipe hack.

So this deep fried avocado recipe has been blowing up everywhere on TikTok right now, which is really weird to me because I've always thought of avocados as these innocent little healthy foods. They're like the newborn babies of produce. But deep frying them is like an avocado going through its rebellious, crazy, edgy, adolescent years. But we're going to test these deep fried cheesy avocados to see if they're really up to snuff. Let's get cooking.

So to start we need to totally peel our avocados. And once we get those ready we can heat up some oil to deep fry these things. We used our classic fan favorite FryDaddy deep fryer and just poured in some peanut oil. This thing heats up the oil automatically.

In the meantime, we made our coating for the avocados by rolling them around in some flour, followed by some egg wash, followed by some breadcrumbs, getting them super ready to fry. And when the oil's nice and hot we drop those babies in and let them cook for 6, 7, 8 minutes until they're nice, and brown, and crispy on the outside.

And just to go super crazy with this recipe, we decided to heat up some Gruyere cheese on the stove and then drench this bad boy in cheese to make it as unhealthy as humanly possible. I'm really nervous about eating this thing.

All right, so we've got our fried avocados ready. And we're ready to try these things and test them on two points of criteria, taste and convenience. First up, taste. So before we get into this, a PSA for everyone watching. There's still a seed inside of this avocado when you fry it. So please be really careful when you're eating it.

Time to dig in. Oh, my god. Regular, non-cheese, just plain fried avocado. I'm going to take a bite into this bad boy. That is not very good. Obviously, cheese tastes fine and deep frying anything can make it taste OK. Beyond that, it just tastes like an avocado. And honestly, it just tastes like a grosser one. I felt so disgusting and barbaric like some kind of crazy savage he-man digging into these things. It made me feel really bad about myself. I'm going to give these a 2 out of 5 for taste.

All right, time for convenience. So making these things is not easy. It takes a long time to peel them, a really long time to get the frying ready, and get all the batter and everything ready to go. And it's really just way too complicated when you could already be eating, and enjoying an avocado, and having fun with that. So we're going to give this a 2 out of 5.

Which, tallying up our scores makes our total score for this recipe a 4 out of 10, which is not very good. As you can see, I was pretty grossed out by this thing. The good news is I think that avocados are just going through a phase. And they're going to grow out of it and still be our sweet little healthful produce when we're done with them.
