Debi Mazar Wants to Play Cookie Lyons’ Lover on “Empire”

The first season of Empire might have come to a conclusion last month, but the world remains obsessed. One lucky reporter recently spent a couple of evenings with Academy Award-nominated director Lee Daniels, the hit show’s co-creator, for a profile in the New York Times. They watched the white party episode together at Daniels’ New York City apartment before heading to a private screening of Cinderella downtown. The theater was full of just a few of the 16 million people who tuned in to Empire weekly—actors, actresses, directors, and everyone else can’t get enough of what Daniels calls “black Dynasty.”

Debi Mazar might be the most obsessed of them all. While many women are inspired by Cookie Lyons’ attitude, or her ability to flawlessly work leopard print into every single outfit, Mazar just wants to make out with her. “I’m addicted, to your show,” Mazar told Daniels at the screening. “It’s like crack. I want to be Cookie’s lover.” While the Times clarifies, “As yet, no lesbian subplot exists for Ms. Henson’s character,” we ask, “Why not?!”

Cookie’s certainly down to try anything, and Mazar might be one of the few women who can match the flawless Taraji P. Henson in both energy and flamboyance. And with Malcolm off to D.C., you can bet Cookie will be looking for some love at the top of season two.
