Dear Bobbi: How Do I Transition My Beauty (and Wellness) Routine from Summer to Fall?

Introducing “Dear Bobbi,” our monthly advice column in which makeup mogul Bobbi Brown answers your beauty and wellness questions. Have something you want to ask Bobbi? Send it to dearbobbi@purewow.com.

Dear Bobbi,

This past summer I went a little rogue (forgot to wear sunscreen more than a couple times and had one too many glasses of Whispering Angel). But now that fall is approaching (and my “sun-kissed” glow is fading), I feel like I need to kick things back into gear. Do you have any tips that you swear by for easing the transition from summer into fall?

Thank you,
Endless Summer

Dear Endless Summer,

You are not alone. The end of summer always signals the start of a new beginning, and in your case and mine—getting back into the swing of things. For me, that means making adjustments to my beauty and wellness routine. Here are my nine tips for heading into the fall season on the right foot.

1. Hit the Reset Button

No more nibbling on fries while sipping endless rosé. Drink more water, and to help with bloating and boosting your metabolism, try Debloat Beauty Tea. It does it all—and aids in digestion as a bonus.

2. Take a Gym Break

I move the party outside as soon as the humidity breaks. It’s just me and my favorite podcast or a hip-hop playlist during my workout. Add some lunges or planks to your walk or run and you’re golden.

3. Go Richer in Your Moisturizer

Time to add a richer cream or face oil to your routine. I love Augustinus Bader or this apricot face oil that I get from a local shop.

4. But Go Lighter on the Color of Your Concealer

As your tan fades, you need lighter shades of both foundation and concealer. (Otherwise it will look orange.)

5. Try a Matte Red Lip

If you look good in a red lip, it can be both elegant and hip at the same time. I prefer a matte red over a glossy one because it stays on longer. Here are two options I like: Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick and Nars Audacious Lipstick.

6. Deepen Your Color Palette

I swap my Essie “Geranium” for Essie “Berry Naughty” and trade my blush-colored sweaters for my city grays.

7. Switch Up Your Scents

In the summer, I love a light, airy scent like Chanel Cristalle, while in the fall, I usually wear either a patchouli, neroli and grapefruit homemade mixture or my classic Chanel No. 5.

8. Embrace a Natural Flush

Once your tan fades, switch your blush back to your natural color as opposed to a bronze or shimmering shade. It should match the color of your cheeks after you exercise.

9. Don’t Forget the SPF

You still need to wear sunscreen every single day, even when it’s not sunny. Make it easy by looking for a daily moisturizer with SPF. I like Supergoop! Superscreen Daily Moisturizer SPF 40.

Love,
Bobbi
