How 'Deadpool 2' kept its surprise villains a secret, including the big one played by Ryan Reynolds (exclusive)

For all the Deadpool 2 fans who didn’t see the highest-grossing live-action sequel in movie history (with $318 million domestic, and still counting) in theaters, have we got a treat for you.

On Tuesday, when the movie arrives on Blu-ray and DVD, viewers will get to watch an extended “ Super Duper $@%!#& Cut” featuring 15 minutes of never-before-seen material, as well as a host of special features — including the above clip, which Yahoo Entertainment is exclusively debuting.

The video focuses on Black Tom and Juggernaut, two of the many adversaries that square off against Ryan Reynolds’s Merc with a Mouth in director David Leitch’s franchise follow-up. As screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese explain, one of the difficulties of working on a high-profile project like this is maintaining a level of secrecy — especially when it comes to the aforementioned baddies, whose appearances are meant to be surprises.

Those efforts were largely successful, as was the creative team’s work bringing Juggernaut to life via CGI. Reynolds says that process “took a village,” given that he provided the motion-captured body and voice for the villain, while Leitch himself was the baddie’s face.

(Reynolds’s role was so secret, in fact, that co-star Stefan Kapičić, who plays Colossus, told The Hollywood Reporter he didn’t know about it until late in production). And according to the director (jokingly), the result is another character who might give Reynolds yet another franchise to headline.

The Deadpool 2 Super Duper $@%!#& Cut is currently available on digital HD and will arrive on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on Tuesday.
