DeSean Jackson meets with 94-year-old Holocaust survivor after sharing fake Adolf Hitler quote
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson is trying to run damage control after sharing a fake Adolf Hitler quote on Instagram.
Jackson, 33, met with a group against anti-Semitism on Thursday, and followed that up by meeting with a 94-year-old Holocaust survivor Friday.
Jackson posted a screen shot of the meeting on Instagram, thanking Edward Mosberg for educating Jackson.
Jackson ended that message with “to be continued.” In a statement Friday, the Eagles said they were encouraged by Jackson’s actions, but added “there is still a lot of work to be done.” The Eagles also announced they fined Jackson for conduct detrimental to the team.
Jackson drew criticism Monday after sharing a fake Hitler quote that claimed he would start World War III to stop white Jews from oppressing the Black community. Snopes has identified that quote as fake.
The Eagles condemned Jackson’s actions Tuesday, saying Jackson would not only apologize for the incident but would also use “his platform to take action to promote unity, equality and respect.”
Jackson apologized multiple times Tuesday. Jackson also personally apologized to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman. Both Lurie and Roseman are Jewish.
In Jackson’s second public apology, he vowed to educate himself and “work with local and national organizations to be more informed.”
