New York Yankees reliever David Robertson cares more about his dog than the average person. Robertson is — we’re hoping — one of the few dog owners out there who admitted to testing out dog food before serving it to his pup.

The Yankees reliever made that claim while discussing food with his teammates, according to Laura Albanese of Newsday.

His reasoning: If you are going to serve it to your dog, you might as well try it first.

Does David Robertson have a point about eating dog food?

No. We are not going to recommend you eat your dog’s food. We commend Robertson for being an intensely committed dog owner, but we’re comfortable appreciating our pets in different ways.

While we don’t know what others foods the Yankees discussed, we feel pretty safe saying Robertson might have them all beat if they were talking about the strangest things they’ve ever eaten.

The fact that Robertson willingly ate dog food makes the whole thing even weirder. We’ve heard of pranks or bets gone wrong where people have eaten dog food, but this is something entirely different.
