David Beckham Launches Own Whiskey, Called Haig Club

Apparently, David Beckham is a whiskey man. A Scotch guy, to be precise.

The retired soccer star recently launched Haig Club, a single-grain Scotch whisky, with the help of “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller and international liquor conglomerate Diageo. (Yep, the spirit is spelled both “whiskey” and “whisky”—it’s a sore grammatical subject.)

Beckham celebrated the launch of the spirit on Saturday with a dinner prepared by Tom Kitchin, chef and owner of the Michelin-starred restaurant The Kitchin in Edinburgh, Scotland. Haggis, lobster, and grouse were all on the menu. So, too, presumedly, was Haig Club, which is said to have notes of "butterscotch and toffee." (It’s currently retailing for about $62.55 online.)

In addition to hosting guests such as chef Gordon Ramsay, Beckham’s lady love Victoria Beckham was on hand. The pair seem to be having a good time in the below photo, which Posh tweeted out Saturday evening.

It’s yet one more in the long line of celebrity spirit launches. Perhaps Mr. Clooney and Mr. Beckham will throw a Scotch-and-tequila party together.
