How Dave and Jenny Marrs' BHG Walmart Collection Came to Life

HGTV hosts Dave and Jenny Marrs are experts at creating beautiful spaces for people. After three seasons of Fixer to Fabulous, they've transformed dozens of spaces—and now they're ready to transform yours, too. The Marrs recently launched a new outdoor collection in collaboration with BHG and Walmart, making their designs accessible to people everywhere.

The couple lives in Bentonville, Arkansas (where Walmart is headquartered) and has dreamed about doing a collaboration for years. And since Jenny has spent years flipping through the pages of Better Homes and Gardens for design inspiration, a collaboration with BHG's Walmart line felt like the perfect fit.

When the BHG team first came to them asking what kind of pieces they wanted to design for the outdoor line, their first priority was a porch swing. Over their years of filming, it's become one of Dave's signature pieces to build, and the Marrs actually have three of them in their home. But Dave knows that not everyone has the tools or ability to build their own from scratch, so they wanted to design an easy-to-assemble version that people could buy and install at home.

"I love that it was such a collaboration between BHG, Walmart, and us," Dave says. "For us, the most important piece for the outdoor collection was the porch swing, so that's where we started."

Next, they focused on the other big furniture piece in the collection: An outdoor dining table and matching chairs. "For us, it's all about hospitality, and it's just a key part of any outdoor space," Jenny says. They actually designed the table based on the kitchen table Dave had originally built for their family home and then coordinated with the Walmart team to develop a teak version that would last in an outdoor setting.

"We started with those two core pieces, and then added the rugs and the lighting and all of the accessories that can be layered on," Jenny says. "That's really how we looked at the collection."

The dining table set isn't the only item in the collection inspired by indoor decorating trends. Jenny explains that the outdoor pendant lights were inspired by an indoor look they loved. "Basket lights are still really popular indoors, but bringing that outside really creates a different feel," she says. "It gives the space a cozy, warm feel that without the lights you don't quite have. When you put them up it feels like you're ready for a party, which I love."

Together, the Marrs designed prototypes of everything in the collection, and then Dave built reproductions of each piece for the Walmart team to recreate. Then, they spent hours choosing wood samples, deciding on color schemes, and perfecting each piece in the line.

"BHG really said, what have you guys built, what's important to you, and then we'll figure out a way to produce this and get these pieces across the whole country," Dave says. "They took our knowledge of building and brought it into the product development and the large-scale production that we could've never done, so the collaboration there was just amazing."

Once the big pieces were done, they wanted to add functional accessories at affordable prices, so the collection would be accessible to everyone. "It's just all about the layering and adding on more pieces that still complement each other," Dave says.

They designed rugs, pillows, lanterns, and planters, with products starting at just $12 (like this ceramic planter). And since everything coordinates, it's easy to refresh an outdoor space with one or two items or create an entirely new outdoor area. Everything in the collection is available now in-stores and online, exclusively at Walmart.

"We're just really excited for it to be out and launching in the world," Jenny says. "We've been working on this for so long, and it finally feels real."
