Although some beauty influencers and celebrities would have you believe that a medicine cabinet filled to the brim with creams, oils, and serums is paramount to a proper skincare routine, one brand begs to differ. Eadem launched earlier this year with a single product, a dark spot serum that sold out in a matter of weeks and garnered a waitlist of more than 1,000 people long. It's been available on the brand's website for most of the summer, and as of today, it's also stocked online at Sephora.

Eadem's Milk Marvel Dark Spot Serum is a three-in-one gel with a milky texture designed to quickly fade marks caused by acne, inflammation, and bug bites. What sets this product apart from others like it is the fact that it was formulated specifically for skin of color by women of color. Founders Marie Kouadio Amouzame and Alice Lin Glover worked with a dermatologist and chemist, who are all women of color, to create a skincare product that targets hyperpigmentation on melanated skin. They call it "Smart Melanin Beauty," and people are paying attention.

Along with creating an immediate sellout product, Eadem received the Glossier Grant for Black Owned Businesses and was an awardee of the Black Innovators in Skin Health QuickFire Challenge by Neutrogena and Johnson & Johnson. It was also part of the Sephora Accelerate Incubator Program and is now sold at the popular beauty retailer.

"We're launching at Sephora with our hero Milk Marvel because hyperpigmentation, especially post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, is one of the most common conditions in melanin-rich skin," Kouadio Amouzame explained in a press release. "We are challenging the assumption that what works on white skin works on all skin."

The fragrance-free serum uses key ingredients like niacinamide, amber algae, and vitamin C to help fade dark spots. And while it was created with skin of color in mind, people with a variety of skin tones and types have seen noticeable results after trying the product.

One Sephora shopper with combination skin and a medium skin tone called it "liquid gold." Another customer with a dark skin tone wrote, "As someone who has tried tons of hyperpigmentation products, this actually works… My skin feels super soft, my texture is evening out, and the darkest dark spots are fading." They even added that because the serum is so effective, they've been able to scale back their skincare routine.

You can order the serum from Eadem's site or online at Sephora today. But hurry, there's no telling how long the in-demand product will stay in stock.
