Sunscreen and dark skin: a relationship that is still in its recovery stages. Like many others with melanin-rich complexions, I went years believing the misconception that the more natural pigment you have, the less important it is to wear a sunscreen. Since that notion has been widely debunked by experts, I've gotten significantly better about incorporating sun protection into my daily skin-care routine.

The problem? I've now run into far too many instances of formulas that clearly don't cater to my skin tone. Often, formulas leave me looking like an ashy, chalky mess — but after plenty of testing, I've finally found the one.

Mario Badescu Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 has officially become one of my daily skin-care essentials, and with summer rapidly approaching, not a moment too soon. Though it's a mineral sunscreen that relies on zinc oxide, a physical UV ray blocker, it blends in to become completely transparent on my skin. (That's especially noteworthy since most mineral formulas rely on a tint to mask chalkiness, but this one blends from white to invisible.)

I also love that the lightweight, silky formula seems to melt into my skin, and with glycerin, hyaluronic acid and coconut-derived moisturizers, it keeps my dry skin feeling dewy. The sunscreen is also fragrance- and oil-free, making it a great contender for anyone who looks for sensitive skin-friendly products.

The final touch that has me utterly sold? The diminutive 1.5-ounce tube is completely portable for touch-ups. Of all the sunscreens I've tried, this is the one I'll keep coming back to.
