What happens when the darlings of Copenhagen’s rising fashion scene leave their home turf to stage a show during New York Fashion Week? Only good things, that much is for sure. Yesterday, Cathrine Saks and Barbara Potts of Saks Potts invited editors to high tea at Gramercy Park’s National Arts Club to take in their Princess Diana–inspired collection—and they brought with them more than scones overnighted from a bakery in Denmark and a new season’s worth of their calling card cuddle coats (this time offered in sherbet lemon and lavish leopard). Also in tow? A bright blue eye plucked right from the royal icon’s playbook.
“I found all these old photos of Princess Diana from the ’80s and she always wore this beautiful blue liner. It fit with [Saks Potts’s] very ladylike ’80s-posh-tea-party vibe,” says Scandinavian makeup artist Zenia Jaeger who drew Nars’s creamy Khao San Road pencil along the lower lash line of such models as Caroline Brasch Nielsen.
As for how to wear the graphic touch today? “Go quiet elsewhere,” Jaeger recommends. “No lipstick, no blush, no anything. This way the eye really pops.” And while the design duo will be on a plane back to Copenhagen by the end of the week, here’s hoping this is one Danish export that continues making waves stateside well into spring.
