'Dandelion' starring Kiki Layne filming in Cincinnati

The latest major motion picture to film in Greater Cincinnati has started production.

The film “Dandelion” stars KiKi Layne as a Cincinnati singer-songwriter. Layne, a Cincinnati native, is best known for her roles in the movies "If Beale Street Could Talk," "Native Son" and "The Old Guard."

This will be writer and director Nicole Riegel's second film. IFC Films recently acquired the global rights to the movie, slated to be released in theaters next year.

“We’re excited to have another motion picture in our area right now,” said Kristen Schlotman, executive director of Film Cincinnati, in a press release.

The film is produced by Rian Cahill of Griffin Drive Productions, Adam Cobb, Pete McClellan and Nicole Riegel. Layne will serve as an executive producer along with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger of Automatik, Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, and Tyler Gould of BondIt Media Capital, Aaron and Bryce Dessner and IFC Films.

Kiandra "KiKi" Layne is an American actress from Cincinnati. She is best known for her starring roles in such films as the Oscar-nominated film "If Beale Street Could Talk," the drama "Native Son," the action superhero film "The Old Guard" and the romantic comedy "Coming 2 America."

"This is what I've always wanted to do since I was going to Performing Arts over on Sycamore Street," Layne told The Enquirer in 2020. She graduated from the School for Creative and Performing Arts in 2009.

In true Cincinnati style, Layne loves Grippos, particularly the cheese puffs with Grippos seasoning and Penn Station East Coast Subs.

"That'll change your life," she said.
