Danai Gurira Serves Sheer Excellence at Black Panther ’s London Premiere

I have to say, I'm kind of obsessed with this Danai Gurira's take on the sheer-dress trend at the London premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The sheer black gown, which features a dramatic center slit, is covered in a shimmering gold floral design, with matching gold flecks in the actor's hair and eye makeup. Against her dark skin, the gown makes Gurira look like the night sky come to life.

Gurira posted a close-up photo of the glam to her Instagram, explaining that her makeup artist's inspiration for the look was the Starry Night painting by Vincent van Gogh. “When in London 🖤,” she wrote. “The #WakandaForever press tour continues.” The dress, according to Gurira's stylist Thomas Carter's IG, is Elie Saab, paired with Cartier jewels and strappy Louboutin heels.

Asked by The Hollywood Reporter about how it felt to shoot the Black Panther sequel without Chadwick Boseman, Gurira responded, “You just never know when the experience of your grief is gonna hit.” For her, she said, “the first day it hit was when I walked into the throne room, of course, the tribal council room which had that beautiful throne that he would sit in. And I hadn't seen that throne since we had lost him.”

If Danai Gurira was trying to chanel her character in Black Panther, Okoye—who is both a fierce warrior and a glamorous member of the Wakanda royal family—I'd say she succeeded with flying colors. Figuratively, of course.
