The best footwear doesn’t need to be ostentatious. Even in a summer dominated by luxury dad sneakers, PVC heels, and platform flip flops, the classic stiletto can still make an impact. When Dakota Johnson headed to AOL’s Build Studios in New York this afternoon to promote her new film, The Peanut Butter Falcon, she skipped the statement accessories and relied on a style that has become a constant within her wardrobe. Saint Laurent’s elegant Amber sandals were the perfect complement to Johnson’s Alessandra Rich suiting and movie star shades.

In recent weeks Johnson and her stylist, Kate Young, have put the versatile heels to good use, trying them out with a variety of designer ensembles. At last week’s Los Angeles premiere, they paired them with a glittering embroidered Saint Laurent mini-dress and gold hoops from Merjuri. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Johnson’s ruffled hot pink tulle dress from Alexandre Vauthier’s Fall 2019 Couture collection received a boost—again, thanks to the stilettos. With their clean lines and simple design, the sandals could go with almost anything, but today’s look proved their versatility; echoing the silhouette of the actress’s cropped blazer and pencil skirt, without taking attention away from either.
