Dakota Fanning Has No Red-Carpet Regrets

Dakota Fanning has been walking red carpets since she was a child, but she doesn’t have any regrets about what she wore. (Meanwhile, some of us look at prom photos and die inside a little.) In a new interview for Jimmy Choo’s Web site, Fanning looked back on some of her most memorable style moments, including the dress she wore to her first movie premiere.

“The first red carpet I can remember was at the I am Sam premiere,” she said, reflecting on the 2001 movie. “It was my first film, so my first premiere, and I wore a satin, champagne-colored dress with capped sleeves. I had a purse that was black patent and shaped like a present, which I thought was very chic—I’m sure I still have it somewhere!”

Fanning recently appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue, alongside her younger sister, Elle, becoming the first sisters to do so. Her Carolina Herrera gown had layers of champagne-colored tulle. The color similarities to the I am Sam dress she wore 16 years ago were just a happy coincidence.

Despite growing up in front of the camera and having her every fashion move captured for the world’s viewing pleasure, Fanning isn’t embarrassed when she sees what she was wearing in old photos, and instead has found an appreciation for those moments. “I don’t really look back and cringe too much,” she said. “it’s definitely more of a warm feeling of nostalgia.”
