DaBaby Dropped From Lollapalooza Lineup After Homophobic Remarks

In the wake of DaBaby’s recent homophobic comments made at the Rolling Loud festival, Lollapalooza has announced that the rapper will no longer be performing at the event.

The Guardian reports that the Chicago-based music festival, which is taking place this weekend, cancelled DaBaby’s performance that was previously scheduled for Sunday, August 1. In a statement via Twitter, the official account for Lollapalooza shared that DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park, providing an updated lineup for fans and concertgoers.

“Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love,” the statement read. “With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight. Young Thug will now perform at 9:00pm on the Bud Light Seltzer Stage, and G Herbo will perform at 4:00pm on the T-Mobile Stage.”

DaBaby’s removal from the Lollapalooza lineup is in response to the comments he made at Rolling Loud Miami last weekend, in which he told the crowd, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up.... Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d*ck in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up!” The rapper later doubled down on his homophobic comments on Instagram Stories.

His comments were soon swiftly condemned by other celebrities and musicians, including Elton John and Dua Lipa, the latter of whom had previously collaborated with DaBaby for her track “Levitating.” In an IG Story message, Dua shared, “I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments. I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.” DaBaby later took to Twitter to address his comments, but many fans felt that his apology — particularly to the LGBTQ+ community — was lacking.

Lollapalooza isn’t the only organization to distance themselves from the rapper; shortly after DaBaby’s comments, boohooMAN released a statement sharing that they were no longer working with him. “Diversity and inclusion are part of the boohoo Groups DNA and we pride ourselves on representing the diverse customers we serve across the globe,” the brand wrote in a statement. “We stand by and support the LGBTQ+ community, and do not tolerate hate speech or discrimination in any form.”
