Custom McDonald’s Happy Meals Salute ’80s Films and TV

When I was but a wee lad I thought McNugget Buddies were the greatest Happy Meal kids toys ever made. I wanted all of them. Now I’m an adult and I know they were the best. Or at least they’re the best kids toys to ever appear alongside a small cheeseburger. The title of best grownup Happy Meal collectibles now belongs to The Toy Zone. The site created a line of McDonald’s toys inspired by cult classic ’80s movies and TV shows. It includes custom boxes and figures for Labyrinth, Top Gun, My Friend Totoro, The Breakfast Club, and more.

The Toy Zone

The Toy Zone, who turned famous fictional homes into amazing Polly Pockets, continues to produce some of the best pop culture toys anywhere. This time they’ve designed an entire lineup of adult-oriented Happy Meal toys based on popular properties from the 1980s. That includes David Bowie’s Goblin King Jareth from Labyrinth. As well as Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrance from The Shining.

The Toy Zone

The set also includes other iconic ’80s movies and characters. There’s an action figure for Tom Cruise’s Maverick from Top Gun. A robed version of Matthew Broderick in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard from Blade Runner. Molly Ringwald’s “Princess” Claire from The Breakfast Club. And the most lovable piece from the collection, Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro.

We would spend an absurd amount of money on at McDonald’s just to find Totoro.

Kids who grew up on ’80s TV haven’t been forgotten, though. Mr. T’s B. A. Baracus from The A-Team pops up in a box rocking his gold chains and mohawk. And David Hasselhoff’s Michael Knight from Knight Rider is on the case too.

As much as we’d like to own all of these toys, the boxes are just as good. The generic names make them even better. They’d look just as amazing on our shelves as their toys would. (The way TheToyZone photographed them in the proper setting makes the pictures worth of display too.)

The box and toy combined would make for one of the coolest collectible sets ever if we could really buy these. And that’s not even true about McNugget Buddies, which came in regular Happy Meal boxes. I still want all of them, though. Both sets.
