Cugino’s Restaurant in Farmington closing its doors

Cugino’s Restaurant, an Italian seafood and steakhouse that has been in Farmington for more than 20 years, announced on Facebook on Tuesday that it is closing its doors.

“Despite our successes and best efforts, we could not come to a lease agreement with the new property owner,” said the announcement. “As a result, we were recently put into a position to vacate sooner than expected.”

The notice, which thanked the staff and the regular customers, concluded with “this is not our final farewell, as we will be pursuing other opportunities within this community that we love. Stay tuned for more information from your Cugino’s family.”

The announcement was signed by owner Mario Cirikovic and his wife, Janice England-Cirikovic. They ran the 1053 Farmington Ave. restaurant with Cirikovic’s brother, Giovanni. The notice also was posted on their website, cuginosrestaurantfarmington.com.

Longtime fans of the restaurant expressed their dismay on Facebook in response to the news.

“Beyond being one of the best restaurants in the area, perhaps more importantly, Mario & Janice were such great supporters of not-for-profit organizations in the area. Your friends at The Miracle League of CT appreciated your many years of support,” one commenter said.

Another commented, “Such sad news for the community! Mario & Giovanni have helped us celebrate so many joyous occasions. They welcome all guests with open arms and makes everyone feel like family.”
