Crystal Kung Minkoff is back on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for her sophomore season, and she’s prepared to be more vulnerable than ever.

Season 12 of the Bravo juggernaut premiered last week, and it promises to be another banner year for the series with headline-making plotlines covering Dorit Kemsley’s home robbery and the continuation of the Erika Jayne situation, but Minkoff will also find herself at the center of the drama this season. Though she’s now considered to be “the Dream Team” with Garcelle Beauvais and Sutton Stracke, viewers will see that those friendships weren’t always easy.

In the latest episode of In The Know by Yahoo’s pop culture interview series We Should Talk, the second-season cast member opened up about her friendships with Stracke and Beauvais, how the Erika situation evolves this year, her decision to open up about her eating disorder on camera and much more.

On opening up about her eating disorder this season: I’ve had my eating disorder for over 30 years now, so it’s very much a part of me. What I realized while filming is that I’m a little too comfortable with it. That’s probably why I started to discuss it, because I felt very comfortable about it, and yet I still really needed to work on it. I still need to work on it. I post something about it, it gets brought up on the show and, at first I did not want to talk about it, because, like, I’m not close enough with any of these people here. But I weirdly felt comfortable and safe about it. I knew that it was important to just be really authentic, and it’s a part of me. We’re all whole people, and we all have great things about our lives and struggles. That’s one of mine, but it’s going to be hard to watch.

On her complicated friendships with “the Dream Team” Sutton Stracke and Garcelle Beauvais: I like to think of myself as someone that always has very individual friendships. I certainly don’t have any friends in my life that I am on a team with, because if I was we shouldn’t be friends in that group. But, obviously, this situation is a little different. I will say that I go through a very bumpy path in the beginning [with Sutton and Garcelle], but maybe you have to go through those bumpy paths to get to a better result and end. It’s really nice to have real friendships with the two of them, because they’ve always been very close and I always respected that. As I got to know them more individually, we really had a good time together. … I do struggle with the two of them, actually, and that’s probably going to be the hardest thing to watch. If I hated them now, I’d be like, “whatever,” but we talk about it. The audience doesn’t know what happened, but we know where we are [now], and that’s really nice.

On discussing the Erika Jayne situation on camera: We all approached it differently because of our depths of friendship with her. I met her on the show last year, and she filed for divorce three weeks later. So, it was brand new for me. Not only am I dealing with a brand new show, but I’m also in serious conflict and now all of this stuff is being revealed piece by piece. Every day it was challenging for me, but a lot less so than for the girls that are close to her, because you feel differently about your close friend when this is all happening. But, yes, everyone was on eggshells. Whereas now, because things feel more settled, it’s really about the aftermath and those questions about how she’s dealing with those things that were being revealed last year. It was easy for the audience to come at us, like, “Why didn’t you ask that?” It’s not easy, and it was hard for everybody. Everybody had a different level of comfort, but it’s different this year. Now that that part is in the past, it feels like this is now a different experience.

On what she learned from her first season on RHOBH: Last year, I took everything to heart during filming and while rewatching it. I’m still quite sensitive — I talked to Kyle [Richards] this morning and she was like, “You’re so sensitive!” — and I didn’t know that I was sensitive, but when you’re in this environment, it really challenges you. I realize now that it’s fleeting. It comes and goes and, even though while it’s happening it feels like it’s forever, it actually isn’t. It entertains people and it takes them out of their life, so hopefully I can hold onto that during the harder episodes.
