For fans of The Crown, the wait for Season 3 has been long and filled with mystery. Other than a few glimpses of the new cast—including the incomparable Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II—Netflix has kept the details of the new season tightly under wraps, including its release date. But now, the streaming service has announced that The Crown will be back sooner rather than later.
On Monday, August 12th, the show’s official Twitter page announced that Season 3 of the award-winning drama will be released on November 17th, meaning in just about three months. (That’s enough time to get our hands on a fascinator.) Along with the announcement, the streaming service shared a 21-second clip of Colman as Her Royal Highness, dressed in her finest ceremonial dress. In the clip, she stops and fixes the camera with an unflinching stare.
According to Harper’s Bazaar, the new season of the drama will take place in the 1970s—about a decade after Season 2 left off. The dramatic time jump led the show’s creators to recast the series. Along with Colman, The Crown Seasons 3 and 4 will star Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, and Marion Bailey as the Queen Mother.

On Twitter, fans couldn’t contain their excitement.
Some are already stanning Colman as the queen. Emmy nomination, anyone?
Imagine winning an Oscar for portraying Queen Anne and then follow that up by playing Queen Elizabeth II in #TheCrown. That screams Emmy to me!— 💬 (@dabidmb) August 12, 2019
